: Second company recalls raw ground beef products

Two companies have now announced recalls of raw ground beef products potentially linked to the e. coli outbreak affecting consumers in at least ten states. On April 23, K2D Foods, doing business as Colorado Premium Foods in Carrolton, Georgia, recalled approximately 113,424 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated withย E. coliย O103. On April 24, Grant Park Packing, based in Franklin Park, Illinois, recalled approximately 53,200 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with the same strain of e. coli.

Grant Park Packing shipped its potentially contaminated ground beef products to Minnesota for further distribution and to Kentucky for institutional use. In the continuing investigation being conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and local and state health officials, it has been determined that many of the consumers who became ill had eaten ground beef products in a restaurant.

Recalled raw ground beef products distributed by Grant Park Packing were produced on October 30-31, 2018, and November 1, 2018. They include 40-lb. bulk cardboard boxes of โ€œNorth Star Imports & Sales, LLC. 100% GROUND BEEF BULK 80% LEAN/ 20% FATโ€ marked โ€œFOR INSTITUTIONAL USE ONLYโ€ with lot code GP.1051.18 and pack dates 10/30/2018, 10/31/2018, and 11/01/2018.
