Listeria at Center of Lean Culinary Services, LLC Recall of Ready-to-Eat Chicken Salads

Ready-to-eat chicken salad products recalled for listeria contamination

Approximately 223 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken salad products sold by a Florida food company are being recalled after U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in a test sample. Lean Culinary Services, LLC, based in Hollywood, Florida, recalled the chicken salad products after the problem was verified by FSIS on February 18, 2019.

Lean Culinary Services ready-to-eat chicken salad products being recalled were produced on February 12, 2019, and then shipped to retail stores throughout the state of Florida. FSIS is concerned that consumers may have these potentially contaminated products in their refrigerators at home. These recalled chicken salad products should not be eaten but should be disposed of properly or returned to the store of purchase:

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.
