A Michigan based company, Lipari Foods, announced on January 6, 2020, a recall on two of their sandwich brands. The recall was issued due to a risk of potential
Listeria monocytogenes
contamination. In the recall announcement, the
Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) stated that Lipari Foods became aware of the contamination after JLM Manufacturing notified them that environmental sampling returned a positive test result for Listeria monocytogenes.
Lipari Foods distributed contaminated products on December 31, 2019. The company reported that they exclusively distributed the sandwich products throughout Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia and, Wisconsin. No illnesses have been reported as linked to the recalled products, but consumers should stay vigilant as the โbest-by dateโ of the products is until January 23, 2020.
The FDA has advised all consumers who may have purchased the contaminated products to either return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or to dispose of them in a proper manner. The recalled products have Lot # 31201912 printed above the nutrition facts. A full list of all the recalled sandwich products can be found in the
FDAโs recall announcement.
Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause a serious infection called
listeriosis.
National Listeria lawyer
,
Ron Simon
, is advising consumers who have eaten any of the recalled products to contact a health care provider as soon as possible and inform them of the potential Listeria exposure. Symptoms of listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. In more serious cases the infection can spread to the nervous system and cause headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur. Listeria can cause serious complications and even death like it was seen in the recent
listeria outbreak
linked to
Almark Eggs
which lead to the death of a Texas resident.ย According to Lipari Foods Listeria Lawyer Ron Simon, lis
teria is especially dangerous to the elderly, young children and pregnant women.
