Two companies had announced recalls of ground beef products in April 2019: K2D Foods, doing business as Colorado Premium Foods in Carrolton, Georgia, and Grant Park Packing, based in Franklin Park, Illinois. Aurora Packing Company is the most recent to announce a recall of potentially contaminated ground beef products.
An e. coli outbreak linked to raw ground beef products has made 196 people sick in 10 states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is continuing its investigation into the multistate outbreak and no link has yet been made to the ground beef products distributed by Aurora Packing Company. However, the company, based in North Aurora, Illinois, is now recalling approximately 62,112 pounds of raw ground beef products that were packaged on April 19, 2019.
The FSIS discovered the issue with ground beef packaged by Aurora Packing Company during traceback activities conducted in response to random sample testing. The raw ground beef products were shipped across the US for further distribution and processing. Recalled ground beef packages can be identified by the establishment number “EST. 788” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
