Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. Salmonella Lawyer Update: CDC Announces Salmonella Outbreak Over.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on November 4, 2020, the end of the salmonella outbreak linked to wood ear mushrooms. The Salmonella Stanley outbreak was originally announced in late September of 2020 after multiple cases began to surface in 3 states. The CDC investigated five illness clusters which were traced back to restaurant s that served ramen. At the time of the outbreak announcement, the majority of the people affected reported eating wood ear mushrooms or ramen containing wood ear mushrooms in the week before their illness started.

The salmonella Stanley outbreak only affected patrons who dined at specific ramen restaurants, since the contaminated mushroom products were sold directly to restaurants and were not sold to consumers at retail stores. According to the CDC, the number of reported cases at the end of the outbreak grew to a total of 55 laboratory-confirmed cases, in 12 states. Thankfully no deaths were linked to the outbreak but the 6 people did require hospitalization.

The outbreak has been announced officially over and the last reported case was announced on September 19, 2020, but the CDC is still advising restaurants to check their inventory for recalled dried wood ear mushrooms distributed from Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. Restaurants who still have any of the recalled mushroom products should dispose of them and properly sanitize all surfaces that recalled mushrooms may have come in contact with, including cutting boards, countertops, utensils, and storage bins. The official recall of the mushroom products was announced on September 23, 2020, the due to the mushrooms have a long shelf life restaurants should cautious when serving dried wood ear mushrooms.

People who eat products contaminated with salmonella bacteria can begin experiencing symptoms as early as 6 hours after ingestion, and they can last from 4 to 7 days. Symptoms of Salmonella Usually include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Son Simon, a national Salmonella Lawyer, stated: 

“The infectious dose of Salmonella is very small and can be as small as 15-20 cells. These bacteria subsequently multiply at an alarming rate, causing the manifestation of symptoms. Salmonella can cause three different types of illness: gastroenteritis, typhoid fever, and bacteremia.”
