The Texas Department of State Health Services Announces Sealy-Based “Texas All Grass-Fed” Whole Chickens, Sold in Austin , Dallas and Houston are Being Recalled Due to Potential to Contain Salmonella

Whole frozen chickens recalled for possible salmonella

Food safety issues have led to a recall of 2,300 whole frozen chickens that are potentially contaminated with salmonella. Texas All Grass-Fed has recalled the chickens because of processing issues that may have allowed salmonella or other bacteria to grow. The Texas Department of State Health Services announced that the company, located in Sealy, Texas, did not document that it had followed proper food safety protocol.

Whole frozen chickens that have been recalled were packaged in plastic bags and distributed in the Houston, Dallas, and Austin areas. They were also sold at Texas All Grass-Fedโ€™s storefront at 1962 Hluchan Road in Sealy.

Texas All Grass-Fed failed to document that it had taken steps to prevent or eliminate bacterial contamination from the chickens or document that the birds were properly cooled after processing. The discovery was made during a records review.

No illnesses have been reported to date; however, the Texas Department of State Health Services is urging anyone who has purchased whole frozen chicken from Texas All Grass-Fed not to consume it. Rather, the chicken should be disposed of properly or returned to the store.

Exposure to the recalled whole frozen chicken could result in food poisoning. Salmonella contamination symptoms include diarrhea and/or vomitingย due toย severe inflammation of theย stomach and intestines caused by the bacteria. Infected individuals typicallyย begin toย experience diarrhea, fever, and abdominal crampsย 8 to 72 hoursย after eatingย contaminated food.
