Taste Restaurant Cyclospora Lawyer: 8 Confirmed Cases of Cyclospora.

Taste Restaurant Cyclospora Lawyer: 22 Suspected Cases of Cyclospora Linked to South Haven Restaurant

Taste restaurant in South Haven, MI was announced to be linked to 8 confirmed cases of cyclospora, according to the

Michigan Department of Health & Human Services

(MDHHS) there are 14 other individuals who are also being tested as possible cases associated with this cyclospora outbreak. People affected by the outbreak have reported dining in Southwest Michigan since mid-June 2019.

The MDHHS announced that there is no indication that the illnesses are related to poor food handling or preparation at this establishment. But the preliminary information suggests an exposure to food products prepared at or distributed by Taste restaurant may be the cause of the outbreak. Taste restaurant is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Tim Slawinski, MDARD’s Food and Dairy Division director stated “Cyclospora contamination often occurs prior to the food arriving at food distribution centers and restaurants. This type of contamination is not easily removed by standard produce rinsing.”

Cyclospora is a parasite that is most common in the tropical regions closer to the equator. But given the large amount of imported food it is a parasite that just last year infected hundreds. In the

McDonalds cyclospora outbreak

which took place last year over a 100 victims were affected after the McDonald’s salads were found to be contaminated throughout the mid-west leading to withdrawal of salads at 300 McDonald locations. Around the same time last year hundreds more were affected in the

Del Monte Cyclospora outbreak

, where contaminated vegetable trays were purchased at  Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Demond’s, Sentry, Potash, Meehan’s, Country Market, FoodMax Supermarket and Peapod retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Just last month

Cooper’s Hawk Winery

was linked to a cyclospora outbreak which affected over 80 patrons, with the number still growing.

Ron Simon a national Cyclospora lawyer

noted “these outbreaks are all too common.  My firm filed lawsuits to help victims in the McDonald’s outbreak, the Del Monte outbreak, and previously in the Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Bob’s Taco outbreaks.  Cyclospora is an awful illness that can last months.”
