Stop & Shop’s 400 New York, New Jersey, and New England Outlets Recall Private Brand Frozen Broccoli Cuts After Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Finds Listeria

Stop & Shop recalls frozen broccoli for listeria contamination

Stop & Shop, a grocery store with more than 400 locations throughout New York, New Jersey, and New England, has recalled its store brand frozen broccoli cuts. The 16-ounce Private Brand Frozen Broccoli Cuts were recalled after the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection tested a sample from the store and found a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recalled 16-ounce frozen broccoli cuts are labeled with the UPC 068826700926 and a best by date of Mar 15 2020. Stop & Shop has removed the potentially contaminated product from its shelves. Consumers who have purchased these frozen broccoli cuts should not eat them but should either dispose of them properly or return them to the store.

Bacterium Listeria monocytogenes are found in soil and water, which can, in turn, contaminate vegetables, animals, processed foods, and unpasteurized foods. Unlike other strains of bacteria, listeriosis multiplies in foods stored in the refrigerator.

The common symptoms of listeriosis include muscle aches, fever, and diarrhea. However, if the infection spreads to the nervous system, the symptoms can become more serious. A stiff neck, seizures, the sudden inability to balance, mental confusion, and headache are all symptoms of listeriosis.

Soft cheeses, cold cut meat, and vegetables are the primary vehicles that spread listeriosis, and listeria lawyer Ron Simon has experience in litigating cases involving these foods. If you have consumed frozen broccoli cuts purchased from Stop & Shop and are experiencing symptoms of listeria contamination, please contact the food poisoning lawyers at 1-888-335-4901.
