Fresh Express Cyclospora Lawyer Files Cyclospora Lawsuit in Illinois: FDA Reports More than 500 Cases Linked to Cyclospora Outbreak.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced an update on the current cyclospora outbreak linked to Garden Salads on July 9th, 2020. In the update, the FDA announced that the number of laboratory-confirmed cases had increased to a total of 509 people across 8 states. Even during the growing Covid-19 pandemic the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), have announced that they are investigating this recent cyclospora outbreak. Since the last update on June 29, 2020, the reported cases have more than doubled in numbers and, multiple companies have issued recalls on Fresh Express products potentially contaminated with cyclospora.
The FDA and CDC have announced that the potentially contaminated products may have the Fresh Express brand label or one of the multiple recalled brand labels such as ALDI Little Salad Bar, Giant Eagle, Hy-Vee, Jewel-Osco Signature Farms, ShopRite Wholesome Pantry, and Walmart Marketside. According to the FDA, the salad products from Fresh Express have also been identified as the likely source of a similar cyclospora outbreak that was announced by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) on July 8th, 2020. The outbreak announced by the PHAC has already reached a total of 37 laboratory-confirmed cases.
As the outbreak continues to grow in the laboratory- confirmed cases the CDC has stated that the number may still continue to increase as more people begin to get tested and receive proper medical attention. Cyclospora symptoms normally begin 1 week after consumption of the contained product. People who become ill with cyclosporiasis, an infection caused by the cyclospora parasite, experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps, bloating, increased gas, nausea, fatigue, and watery diarrhea.
Ron Simon, a national food safety attorney who is currently representing multiple victims affected by the Fresh Express Bagged Salad Mix Cyclospora Outbreak (and who has settled thousands of food poisoning cases, including against the defendant Fresh Express) stated in a press release “As the number of victims continues to grow, we encourage people who have purchased and eaten bagged salad mixes from Walmart, Hy-Vee, ALDI, and Jewel-Osco, who have been experiencing the symptoms of cyclospora, to get tested. Getting tested will enable the victims to receive the proper medical treatment and will also help health officials track and bring an end to this outbreak.”
Ron Simon has settled thousands of food poisoning cases, including taking a leading role as a Cyclospora lawyer in all the recent national cyclospora outbreaks. Among the many thousands of cases he has settled, ironically, he has done so with the defendant Fresh Express.
