Arby’s Norovirus Lawyer Update: Norovirus Outbreak linked to Arby’s in Illinois.

The Sangamon County Department of Public Health announced on March 2nd, 2021, a. The outbreak was first announced back on February 25th, 2021, after the Department of Public Health began receiving multiple complaints of potential food poisoning reports from people who dined at the Arby’s at 3009 S. Dirksen Parkway in Springfield, Ill. According to the Department of Public Health, no other similar food poisoning incidents have been linked to other restaurants in the area.

The Sangamon County Department of Public Health has stated that approximately 40 cases of food poisoning have been reported from people who dined at the Arby’s. In their investigation, the public health department confirmed the presence of norovirus in the restaurant and believes it may have been the cause of the food poisoning cases reported in the week of February 20th, 2021. The Arby’s location linked to the food poisoning cases was closed by health department officials for deep cleaning but has since reopened for business.

In their inspection of the Arby’s restaurant health department officials found multiple violations from storing the food in improper temperatures to improper labeling the of expiration dates on certain meat products. After their first inspection and deep cleaning on February, 24th health officials returned to the restaurant and discovered temperature issues with the prep cooler. The Department of Public Health will continue its investigation on the outbreak and inform the public once more information is available.

Norovirus is a very contagious group of viruses that cause gastroenteritis illness. Infected individuals usually experience symptoms within 24 to 48 hours of exposure.
