The Daviess County Health Department has stated that they will be working alongside The New White Steamer to properly to prevent any cases from arising due to the Hepatitis A contamination. The restaurant is still open, but the health department has announced that proper thorough disinfection of the restaurant has been conducted, and the restaurant will continue to practice proper cleaning procedures to ensure that a similar incident doesn’t happen again. Free vaccinations were offered at The National Guard Armory, 500 NE 6th Street, Washington, IN 47501, on May 27, 2020, to all patrons who consumed food at the restaurant.

The Health Department has not released any more information on the incident that transpired but they did advice consumers who purchased food or drinks from the restaurant from April 1, through Friday, May 15, 2020, to remain vigilant for symptoms of Hepatitis A. Patrons who did not get vaccinated should contact a medical health care provider if they start to display symptoms of Hepatitis A. Hepatitis A symptoms normally include loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, fever, stomach pain, brown-colored urine, light-colored stools, and yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Hepatitis A is a viral infection caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV) and results in severe liver disease and sickness. People normally begin displaying symptoms of Hepatitis A 15 to 50 day’s post-exposure of food or beverage containing the HAV virus. According to a national Hepatitis A Lawyer, Ron Simon, the infection can cause inflammation to the liver, which is vital for removing harmful chemicals from the body, storing energy, fighting infection, and storing vitamins and nutrients. Hepatitis A can be prevented by getting vaccinated at a younger age or by getting vaccinated no more than two weeks after exposure.
